The Inaugural Five Star Futurity A Huge Success
The Five Star
Futurity held its inaugural futurity and
open horse show on September 1-2, 2007 at Fonner Park in Grand Island, Nebraska.
The event had an exceptional turnout and classes
were tough. Outside of the ring, the
exhibitors had it easy as they were treated with
a free BBQ on Friday night, a breakfast buffet
on show mornings, popcorn all day and a free
Five Star Futurity t-shirt.
The Five Star
Secret, a 2007 Reserve World Champion weanling
halter stallion, was donated to the Five Star
Futurity by Wild Basin Ranch. The colt was
given away in a drawing to eligible exhibitors.
The colt was won by Debbie Kurtzbein of
Montevideo, Minnesota. The Hi-Point
Palomino Pleasure Horse Saddle Winner was Solid
Gold Levis, an AQHA gelding sired by The Golden
Deck. The 2 Year Old Snaffle Bit Do Over
Class Champion was Touched by Diamonds, an APHA
Gelding sired by Bearly A Diamond.
Plans are already
underway for the 2008 Five Star Futurity.
The goals are to double everything- the number
of stallions, the prize money, and the entries.
The Five Star Futurity is hoping to have 232
stallions on the nomination list for the 2008
Futurity and hand out over $60,000 in cash and
prizes. The nomination list is already
started with the first stallion, Mr Big Zipper
of Hatch's Quarter Horses, being nominated back
less than 24 hours of the end of the inaugural
Five Star Futurity. A total of 10
stallions have since been renominated. In
addition, Wild Basin Ranch has already promised
yet another world class colt or filly by a great
halter stallion. The futurity is looking
for a sponsorship of a performance type foal so
that equal recognition can be given to the
halter and performance horse industries.
