The Midwest Horsemen's Association Futurity
From humble beginnings in 1975, The Midwest Horsemen's Association Futurity has grown significantly.  Held the first weekend of October, this futurity welcomes All Breeds to exhibit in their annual futurity.

Year Founded: 1975
Founded By: The first stallion service auction was held as a fundraiser for the Midwest Horsemen's Association.  Five families paid their $10 memberships and 11 stallions were auctioned.  First place won $67.  In 2006, first place in the Breeders weanling classes took home over $900.
Show Date: October 6-7, 2007.  2008 Dates are set for Oct. 4 & 5, 2008
Show Location: Kirkwood Equine Center- Cedar Rapids, IA
Target Breeds: All Breeds
Stallion Auction: Only one fee per donated stallion.  Contracts are due in late November.  Stallion Service Auction will be held in January.  Stallion Service must sell by May 1 of the current year in order for foals to be eligible.
Mare Nominations? No.
Payback: -Breeders weanling payouts start at $900-$1000 to win
-Payouts down to 10th place depending on entries.
Unique Features: -All Breed Futurity-If you decide not to show a foal, but want to keep in eligible for the futurity, sustaining fees for keeping foals eligible from year to year is only $5.
-The 2006 MWHA saw an enormous amount of entries.  The Closed Breeders Futurity Weanling Fillies had 49 shown.  Payback to the winners of the Late Fillies, Middle Fillies, and Early Fillies was $906 each.
-There's no need to retire your Halter Horses after their yearling year with this futurity.  Classes are offered for Halter Horses up to 5 years of age
-Exhibitors Potluck Dinner is held during the futurity. In 2007, a taco bar will be supplied by the club.
-Random Drawings in each class.
Entry Fees: -Entry Fees are due by August 31.  
-Closed Breeders Futurity-Nomination Fees=$30 when paid by June 30th.
-Limited Ongoing-Entry Fee of $40 when paid by August 31st.
-Entries are taken until Sept. 15th (late penalities are incurred)
-Stall Fees: $60 when purchase by first deadline.
Eligibility: To be Eligible for the Closed Breeders Futurity, horses must be entered or sustained in all years (i.e. 2 year olds must be entered/sustained as a weanling and yearling in order to be eligible). 

Limited Ongoing Futurity-Entry must be sired by a stallion that is on the Eligibility List for the year, for the class you are entering.
Judge Selection: 3 Judges are hired to judge the MWHA Futurity.  Most of the judges are carded by at least 2 equine organizations.   Names of Judges are not available to anyone until the day of the show.

-Breeders Weanling (Mare owner who purchased Stallion fee at Auction, and Stallion Owner Only!)
-Breeders Yearling Halter (Must have been nominated as a weanling or sustained and on list)
-Breeders 2 Year Old Snaffle Bit Pleasure (Must have been entered or sustained as a weanling & yearling and on list)
